This initiative marked Prakrit Foundation’s first pilot installation of Rotary Drum Composters in collaboration with Ecowrap, aiming to create a decentralized, community-scale composting model that’s practical, low-cost, and chemical-free.

A total of 10 composting drums were installed, with active composting carried out in multiple batches. The project was led by Dr. Sudipti Arora and Ms. Kritika Shah, with intensive on-ground execution by Vishwas Agarwal and Jayant Vajpayee, who managed the operations end-to-end—overseeing installation, daily monitoring, and adaptive problem-solving throughout the 44-day cycle.

Key challenges like excess moisture, odor, and maggot growth were addressed using indigenous methods such as turmeric, curd, and coco peat—proving that localized, sustainable solutions can replace chemical interventions. Final compost was harvested successfully, and the support staff received hands-on training to ensure continuity of the system.

Key Outcomes:
-10 Rotary Drums installed and used
-Compost harvested and ready
-Local staff trained for system upkeep
-Field success with full-time monitoring

This pilot has not only demonstrated the technical viability of rotary drum composting in community spaces but also set the foundation for scalable, eco-positive waste solutions across regions.
